Learning About Our Senses

We have been learning about our 5 senses.  In art, we made a picture of ourselves and wrote about why we are thankful  for each of our senses.  Sight: googly eyes.  Hearing: jingle bells.   Taste: Gum.  Smell: Cinnamon on our nose.  Touch: cotton balls and sandpaper on our hands

Monday:  We learned about our sense of smell.  Students smelled multiple smells: coffee, cocoa, mustard, cinnamon, dog food, kool-aid.  We explored our sense of smell and discussed what smells they liked or disliked and why.

Looking for a cute Halloween Snack?

The Halloween Party will be on October 28th.  Here are some snack ideas.

Scarecrows

I brought the overalls, sweatshirt and newspaper and the kids made him.  We also made the scarecrow heads in art to hang up in our doorway.

Orange Day

"Oran - sha" wondering how Orange Day went?   We had a great time!  We made pumpkins, learned a pumpkin poem and the orange song.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said, "My it's getting late."
The second one said, "There are witches in the air,"
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth one said, "Let's run, let's run."
The fifth one said, "Oh, it's only Halloween fun"
Then puff went the wind and out went the lights.
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Food Town

During the last few weeks, we have been learning about community helpers, towns, environmental print, and communities.  We created our own town.  When brainstorming town names, my students said Donut, Icecream, Cucumber and Hot Dog Town.  So, as a class, we decided these would be good street names.  We named our town FoodTown.  While creating our town, my students came up with some wonderful additions neated in a community.  Our businesses include: Sparkle Restaurant, Free Pets, Firehouse, Jail Apartment, Another Pet Store, Sprinkles Icecream, Happy Hospital and Fun Time Park.  My students also drew a burning house for the firetruck to help, a school, football field, schoolbus, and playground, cars and bicycles.  I am so proud of the town that they developed.
